Dr. Nancy O’Neill—or Dr. O., as she’s affectionately known by patients and staff—is a Board-Certified Diplomate of Orthodontics which is the highest level of training and achievement in the Orthodontic profession.
She decided to pursue Orthodontics as a specialty because “I fell in love with magic of transformation—it’s not just teeth, it’s also orthopedics–the bite, the bones–the whole face.” Over 20 years later, she still loves the magic of watching her patients’ transformations and beaming smiles.
Dr. O constantly studies the latest developments in orthodontic and dental-facial orthopedic research and technology, so she can provide the latest techniques and products for her patients’ treatment options.
When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. O is an avid equine enthusiast, spending most weekends riding her American Quarter Horse, Sage, and competing with her in ranch riding shows in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
She has been happily married for over 25 years, and lives with her husband Pete O’Neill and office mascots Dolly and Fritz in White Hall, Maryland. Aside from competitive horse-riding and travel, her hobbies include hiking, and reading historical biographies.

An orthodontist is a specialized branch of dentistry that includes dento-facial orthopedics. All orthodontists are required to complete Dental School as the groundwork prior to specializing in Orthodontics. Typically, a dentist completes 8 years of higher education, while an orthodontist must complete 10 or 11 years to become a specialist. Board Certification requires additional years of case review and peer examinations, and is confirmation of an orthodontist’s personal commitment to providing lifelong quality patient care. On average, only one in three orthodontists becomes Board Certified. More detailed information on the ABO Certification process.
